Our Families
The success of Utah Prep students is rooted in the connection between child and family. For a student to master and overcome the challenges they began with, Utah Prep asks that parents stay connected to their child’s progress through family counseling via monthly telephone conferences, letters, as well as attending Parent Weekends.
As a student ascends through program levels, there will be weekly phone calls from home, letter exchanges with family members and the opportunity for off-campus activities when parents visit. We will encourage you to support your child throughout their enrollment by sending family photos, remembering them on birthdays and special occasions, and visiting on any of the pre-planned Parent Weekends. Special visitation can be arranged through the student’s therapist.
It is imperative that parents understand that the success of Utah Prep student’s ITIP (Insight to Independence Plan) relies partly on the student being able to set therapeutic milestones and then in working with family, achieve those milestones. Emphasis of an ITIP includes insight development, assessment and improvement of decision-making skills, developing and achieving personal goals, creating family contracts, and the all-important, transition-to-home plan.
